Battle Royale - Sorcerers and Scientists Round 1

1) Emperor Palplatine VS. 16) Quinn Mallory

Emperor Palpatine – The Return of the Jedi
A galactic ruler over thousands of planets and a Sith Master, Emperor Palpatine is the complete embodiment of evil. Few in the tournament can boast such masterful scheming, raw power, and unapologetic cruelty as this Sith Lord. He was the grand-architect of a twenty year political chess-game that enable the galaxy to be handed to him on a silver platter. But Palpy isn’t just a strategic mastermind. His dark-side power allows him to channel the force into a storm of electrical energy that can bring down the most powerful of warriors. Finally, the Emperor has the ability to see through the very fabric of time, predicting the future and making allowances with the foreknowledge he gleans. Beware the power of the Dark side. - Cyberman

Quinn Mallory – Sliders
Inventor of the “sliding” technology, this physics graduate student achieved a scientific breakthrough and discovered the existence of parallel universes. Quinn’s travels through these alternate dimensions have exposed him to a wide array of perils. These dangerous encounters have helped to steal his nerve and prepare him for this tournament. As one of the most brilliant minds in earth’s twentieth century Quinn is more than capable of combining his book-smarts and his street-smarts to thrive in this competition. - Cyberman

8) Doctor Who VS. 9) The Invisible Man

The Doctor – Doctor Who
Protector of all space-time, The Doctor is an expert in a thousand different scientific disciplines. There is no phenomenon in the universe the he has not experienced, categorized, and deconstructed. By comparison, all civilizations across time and space are primitive and underdeveloped. The Doctor’s knowledge makes him the most intelligent combatant in the entire competition. Additionally, the Doctor has spent hundreds of years, touring the cosmos encountering numerous adversaries and vanquishing them all. Often times The Doctor was forced to draw upon his skills of martial arts, swordsmanship, and ballistics, not to mention his knowledge of military strategy, scientific principles, and other miscellaneous skills he has picked up in his temporal wanderings. In this competition few contestants are equipped with as many skills as The Doctor. - Cyberman

The Invisible Man – The Invisible Man
This brilliant inventor unlocked the secret of the most coveted discovery. To turn invisible can grant an individual tremendous power. Peeping-Tom benefits aside, for the purposes of this tournament the Invisible Man has an immediate advantage over his enemies. Moving unseen across the battlefield, he has the chance to strike first and rend his opponents helpless before they can respond. A well placed attack on even the strongest of enemies would be enough for this Invisible Man to advance through this tournament. - Cyberman

5) The Master VS. 12) Mr. Spock

The Master – Doctor Who
Arch-nemesis to The Doctor, this renegade Time-Lord is the personification of megalomaniacal evil. With a genius level of intelligence that rivals The Doctor himself, The Master is capable of out-witting, out-strategizing, and out-thinking any combatant in this entire competition. In addition, he is an expert hypnotist, able to mesmerize and manipulate weak minded foes. Unlike most opponents in his bracket, the Master is armed with a deadly hand weapon known as the Tissue Compression Eliminator. This devastating short-range weapon is able to physically shrink any target to one tenth its original size. The added benefit is that living tissue is killed in the transformation. Taking into account the Master’s brains, his abilities, and his weaponry, he should be considered a dark horse favorite in this competition. - Cyberman

Mr. Spock – Star Trek
The pointy eared terror from beyond not only comes with a phaser that he can set to kill, but also a logical mind that knows no fear. Spock has been around the universe and studied innumerable species of people. If there is a weakness or flaw then he will quickly assess it and exploit it. This ruthless half human from outer-space can also use his mental powers to meld with another’s mind and see their thoughts. He is also mastered Vulcan fighting techniques including the Vulcan Neck Pinch, a move that can take down any opponent assuming they have a neck. - Dagromm

4) Saruman VS. 13) Sam Beckett

Saruman – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
This leader of the Order of wizards wielded vast amounts of power from his lofty perch in the tower of Orthanc. This geriatric bad-ass has got all kinds of mystical muscle. He put the smack down on Gandalf, wielding telekinetic forces that tossed around the powerful grey wizard like a rag-doll. He is able to conjure up intense snow storms, sending blinding sheets of snow and hail down up his foes. His voice has the power to manipulate emotions, casting fear, doubt, hate, and paranoia upon his target. He even has the power to possess an individual’s body as evidenced by his control of King Theoden. - Cyberman

Sam Beckett – Quantum Leap
As the head of a top secret think-tank, Dr. Sam Beckett was instrumental in unlocking the secret of time travel. Having “leapt” into the body of a pilot, some 30 odd years in the past, Sam Beckett became a human test project known as Quantum Leap. This brilliant scientific mind was put to the test as he determined the necessary factors required for him to leap out of one persona and into another. With each new jump, Sam Beckett didn’t appear to make much progress towards returning home. However, his experiences forced him to stretch his skills to capacity, often learning new talents on-the-fly in an attempt to maintain the image of the persona he occupied. Armed with a unique ability to adapt quickly to his surrounds along with a sound foundation in karate and his scientific principles, Sam Beckett is more than capable of holding his own in this tournament. - Cyberman

3) Gandalf the White VS. 14) Phoebe

Gandalf the White – The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Reincarnated from a previous life as Gandalf the Grey, this new and improved Gandalf is stronger, faster, and a more powerful then ever. He boasts an impressive array of abilities. In the mines of Moria Gandalf the Grey defended his comrades from the fiery Balrog, ultimately defeating the creature. On the planes of Gondor he repelled a horde of Nazgul with beam of magical energy, and at the Black Gate of Mordor he proved (like in so many other battles) his ability to best in combat the strongest of warriors. As if this weren’t enough, Gandalf demonstrates a tremendous force of will against the power of the One Ring, proving he has the fortitude to withstand all manner of psychological and meta-physical assault. Finally, the White Wizard is a master strategist capable of fending off attackers of greater strength. - Cyberman

Phoebe – Charmed
The sexiest member of the witchly trio makes for an interesting contestant in this tournament. She has spell casting abilities, but unlike her sisters doesn’t have an offensive power. Still, she is part of the most powerful Wicca triumvirate in the world though and should not be taken lightly. This scrumptious spell flinger doesn’t just rely on her spell book either. Phoebe has gone the extra step to learn martial arts so that whether the battle is mystical or physical she is ready to compete. - Dagromm

6) Ra VS. 11) Bavmorda

Ra – Stargate
At first glance this Egyptian God presents as a powerful sorcerer. In reality this supposed deity is from a far off galaxy and is really a member of a highly advanced alien race. His powers proved to be the work of superior technology even compared to the wonders of man’s own modern science. It is not surprising that this creature was able to subjugate all of the ancient Egyptian people and establish himself and his minions as the dominant religious force on the planet. Thousands of years later Ra still demonstrates his powerful technology. Able to possess the bodies of other living creatures and rejuvenate those bodies for prolonged life, Ra has managed to do what many others in the competition could not, that being to master the secret of immortality. In addition Ra brings to bare an arsenal of powerful advanced weaponry placing him in a position of strategic strength at the beginning of every competition. - Cyberman

Bavmorda – Willow
This villainous witch has got all the credentials. She is a ruler of an entire empire, holding sway of mighty armies, proving that she has tremendous political savvy as well as a sound understanding of military strategy. She has the power to transform a battlefield of warriors into harmless pigs, demonstrating the expansiveness of her magical abilities. She is even formidable against opponents of equal power, having exiled the good sorceress, Fin Raziel to a magical island. Bavmorda is not without defensive powers as well. When assaulted with a spell that threatened to turn her to stone, she was able to reverse the power of this magic through sheer force of will. Combine these even more offensive powers that include telekinetic energy and you have a force to be reconed with in this competition. - Cyberman

7) Scorpius VS. 10) The Goblin King

Scorpius – Farscape
A high-ranking officer in the Peacekeeper Hierarchy, Scorpius is both a master military tactician and an expert scientist. A product of genetic breeding between Sebaceans and Scarrans, Scorpius has the strength and endurance of a Scarran warrior and the keen intellect of a Sebacean strategist. Scorpius, highly advanced armor has proven impervious to small arms fire. His medical coolant system, embedded in his brain, keeps the warm blooded and cold blooded nature of his dual physiology in alignment, allowing him to function without dropping down dead. While Scorpius is a ruthless killer, he is also even tempered and not prone to unreasonable outbursts. This allows him to keep his emotions in check, thereby out-thinking many an unsuspecting foe. - Cyberman

The Goblin King – Labyrinth
The magical might of Jared the Goblin King will be put to the test in this tournament. His powers to change shape, conjure weapons, animals, and portals to alternate dimensions surely make him a powerful foe. Add to that the knack of being able to affect memories and add to his retinue by turning others to goblins and we have a top notch competitor. These abilities, his cruel nature, and his impeccable musical timing led him to attain a vast empire and almost Jennifer Connelly as well. The only question remaining to the Goblin King is which kind of magic spell to use? Slime and snails or puppy dog tails? Thunder or lightening? - Dagromm

2) Evil Willow Rosenburg VS. 15) Willow Ufgood

Evil Willow Rosenburg – Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Being a rampant lesbian isn’t the only thing scary about this powerful sorceress. Her command over dark magic had the world on the brink of destruction and all of demon-kind running scared. Willow demonstrated the ability to cast giant fireballs miles away, rend all the flesh from a person’s body in an instant, and creep people out with her spooky dark eyeballs. She has the powers of telekinesis, flight, magical blasts, teleportation, the power to put people to sleep at a mere word, and most frighteningly the ability to drain others’ magical abilities from them. Evil Willow knows no mercy and relishes in inflicting pain. - Dagromm

Willow Ufgood – Willow
The smallest competitor of this bracket might be the biggest surprise. Willow has used his tenacity and stick-to-it-ive-ness to fell mighty foes before now. Armed with acorns that can turn people to stone, his disappearing pig trick, and a heart of gold this tiny wonder might just surprise the world. - Cyberman

When you take the time to post this dang tournament to your blog you can enact the Jerry O'Connell rule. Until I hear this "rule" exlplained in detail, I'll be posting Palpy as the winner in Round 1
